Scholio

Terms of Service

Effective 29 September 2026

These terms apply when you use the Scholio app ("Scholio", "the app"), built and run by Al Arafat Tanin ("I", "me"). By using Scholio you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. The service

Scholio helps you discover, organise and read research papers. It shows metadata and links from public scholarly services and, where available, legal open-access copies. Scholio does not host, sell or grant rights to papers. Each paper remains under its publisher's or author's own licence and terms.

2. Your account

3. Your content

Notes, highlights, collections and profile details you create belong to you. You give me permission to store, sync and display them only as needed to run Scholio for you, for example to sync them to your devices or to show a collection you chose to share.

If you leave "Contribute to shared library" on, AI summaries of public papers generated in your app may be added to the shared library for other users. They are shared without your identity, and you can switch this off in Settings.

4. Acceptable use

Do not:

I may suspend or delete accounts that break these rules.

5. AI features

Summaries and explanations are generated by software and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Always check important points against the paper itself. If you use your own API key with an AI provider, that provider's terms and fees apply to those requests, and you are responsible for them.

6. Third-party services

Scholio relies on services it does not control, including arXiv, Semantic Scholar, Crossref, OpenAlex, Unpaywall, ORCID, Supabase and Google. Their availability and content can change, and their own terms apply to them.

7. No warranty

Scholio is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of content. I do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that paper metadata or summaries are correct. Keep your own backups of work that matters to you. The app's export and backup features exist for this.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or opportunity, arising from your use of Scholio or your inability to use it.

9. Ending your use

You can stop using Scholio at any time and ask for your account to be deleted, as described in the privacy policy. I may change or discontinue the app, and will give reasonable notice in the app or on this site before shutting down the sync service so you can export your library.

10. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use Scholio after a change means you accept the updated terms.
